Paul Inglis, the art director for Blade Runner 2049, has been hired to work on the upcoming Star Wars Episode IX.
Inglis has also worked on Game of Thrones, Skyfall, and Prometheus. Blade Runner 2049 has gotten praise for its stunning visuals, something Inglis deserves some credit for as the art director helps bring the production designer’s creativity to life and has major influence in the set design and production.
Episode IX, to be directed by JJ Abrams, is set to begin production in June 2018. Abrams directed Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. A title has not yet been revealed for Episode IX nor have any plot details. Abrams will also be writing alongside Derek Connolly, Chris Terrio, and Colin Trevorrow (who had also been set to direct but left/was replaced).
The recent Star Wars movies have gotten praise for their visuals and Episode IX looks like it will follow that trend. To name a few, The Force Awakens had the shot of Rey on her speeder with the crashed Star Destroyer in the background, Rogue One had the already iconic Darth Vader hallway scene and space shots of the Death Star and Star Destroyers , and The Last Jedi had the hyperdrive destruction scene. Solo, the upcoming Star Wars film (hits theaters this May), looks like it will be visually stunning as well based on shots from the trailer, such as the Star Destroyer in the electrical field/clouds:
Star Wars Episode IX will release in theaters on December 20, 2019.
