Elton John has revealed which songs will be featured in Jon Favreau’s The Lion King remake, and a classic is sadly being left out.
The 1994 classic featured award-winning songs from Elton John and Tim Rice, a duo who is teaming-up once more for the 2019 CG remake. In a recent interview, John revealed just which of his songs from the original would be included, and which one would be cut. The film is already confirmed to open with “The Circle of Life”, and it will be joined by three other songs throughout the movie.
“There’s going to be four of our songs in the film, from the original: Can You Feel The Love Tonight? Hakuna Matata, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King and Circle of Life.”
Sadly absent, it appears, is Scar’s villainous “Be Prepared”. It was a great villain song, perfectly establishing his entitled, arrogant motivations. Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book remake included three songs from its animated source material: “The Bare Necessitates”, “I Wanna Be Like You”, and “Trust In Me”, which was sung during the credits. It seems the music is more important this time, which is fortunate, as The Lion King is inseparable from its perfectly suited music.
Confirming earlier reports, John also revealed he’ll be working with Beyonce, who will voice Nala, to produce a new song that will play during the credits.
“They need to have a new end credits song… There will be an end, closing song, and we’ve been speaking to Beyonce’s people and hopefully Tim and I and her can cook up something. That’s going out in 2019 as well. And it will be great to work with her. So we will see.”
This new song might be their bid for Original Song awards come the 2019 awards season. The original swept these categories, taking home the Best Original Song categories at both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
John then added that he himself is very excited for the movie, and that it’s shaping up to be something special.
“Jon Favreau is directing it, he did an amazing job on The Jungle Book. I’ve seen a little bit of the opening of it, which is amazing. The film is going to be amazing.”
