It was recently rumored that the upcoming DCU film Aquaman would be altering a classic comic book representation of some of their characters. The report from the fan page, The Aquaman Shrine, claimed that the film would diverge from comic book canon and would feature Dolph Lundgren’s King Nereus as the father of Amber Heard’s Mera. Well now this claim has been further backed up by Lundgren himself.
The Aquaman Shrine has released a quote from Lundgren discussing his role of King Nereus.
As you can see Lundgren explicitly calls Heard’s Mera his daughter which pretty much confirms the earlier report. This is quite a change from the comics as they have previously been depicted in a romantic relationship. So this change should open a world of new opportunities for the writers as they explore the world of Atlantis and its people.
As of now the film’s director James Wan and Warner Bros. has not commented on the change. If new updates do come in you can be sure we at SuperBroMovies will be the first to let you know.
