Watch out Jared Leto, another Clown Prince of Crime is in town. According to The Tracking Board’s Jeff Sneider, the Joker origin film is set to begin production in May of this year.
Late last summer, it was announced that Warner Brothers was developing a film centered around the origin of the Joker. Todd Philips (The Hangover) was announced to direct the project with Martin Scorsese set to produce. That led many to speculate that Scorsese lead man Leonardo Dicaprio would soon be attached to the role of the Joker, it didn’t end up that way, however.
News broke earlier this month that superstar Joaquin Phoenix was in talks to play the lead role, although no deal has been finalized.
Then came news today that the project would begin production in May. You can check out the apparent call sheet below:
The other intersting tidbit is that that the movie is calling for a “Young Joker”. That could tease many different directions but still doesn’t add all that much in terms of context. It’s still unknown if Batman has any role to play in the film or if other members of Bruce Wayne’s Rouge’s Gallery would appear.
