As a part of their on set visit, Entertainment Weekly has provided some all new in depth information on Avengers: Infinity War, from interesting character pairings to new and interesting information on the movie, including an explanation for why the battle seen in all the trailers is taking place in the African Nation of Wakanda. After the amazing last shot in the trailer, which featured The Avengers charging towards the Outriders in a battle for Wakanda, fans have been speculating why exactly the battle takes place there.
Director Anthony Russo was able to shed some light on the situation in an on set interview, explaining what most had already come to the conclusion to: to protect Vision and the Mind Stone. Anthony Russo had this to say about the Vision:
“Vision is a living MacGuffin, Obviously, that raises the stakes because Vision’s life is in danger, and his life is in conflict with Thanos’ goals, so something’s got to give.”
With Vision being an obvious target for Thanos to go after in order to complete the Infinity Gauntlet, Director Anthony Russo elaborates on how the Avengers decide to handle this situation and to protect Vision:
“Cap makes the decision to bring [Vision] here to Wakanda, Earth is making its last stand to keep the stone from Thanos. It’s the best place to make your last stand.”
The fact that Captain America decides to take Vision to Wakanda to protect him confirms not only the popular theory as to why The Avengers there, but also confirms that the second popular theory is false, which is the mysterious Soul Stone is in Wakanda. Now that we have confirmation that the Soul stone is not the reason for the final stand in Wakanda and it is rather for strategic purposes, it’s safe to say that the Soul Stone is most likely not on Earth.
