Black Panther has been a cultural phenomenon since it’s release on February 16th. The film has made $786.3 million USD on a $200 million USD budget, which is incredible. One of the many things that have stood out in the film is General Okoye and the Dora Milaje. T’Challa and Kilmonger have become household names, but Okoye has definitely become one as well.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we are going to take a peek at some concept art for Okoye via comicbookmovie.com. Okoye played by Danai Gurira of The Walking Dead was definitely one of the most popular characters in the film. Okoye stole many of the scenes she was apart of, and is someone we are looking forward to seeing more of in future Black Panther films.

Here’s the concept art:

Helmet, Visor, Eagle

This look is awesome, very sci-fi and fun. Okoye looks like the female Judge Dredd of Wakanda with the helmet and visor. The Eagle also is a really cool addition. The cape and vibranium glove look amazing as well. The look wasn’t what they wanted in the end, so it was scratched.

Gold Armor w/ a Unique Mask

Marvel had an idea to cover Okoye and the Dora Milaje in a mask. The gold armor and jewelry are beautiful. The shoes are a nice look as well. It seems as though Marvel wanted to go a different route with the design of Okoye and the Dora Milaje.

Okoye, the General

This look is more on point with what Okoye’s look in the film was. Disney and Marvel found the perfect look for Okoye. The armor, jewelry, everything about this is awesome.

Okoye’s Mask

These pictures show us a masked Okoye. This would’ve been amazing, but also kind of bad. Seeing the emotions of the Dora Milaje throughout the film helped it out heavily. Of course, these masks would’ve only been on during battle like T’Challa’s. The battle scenes with the Dora Milaje were amazing bc of the emotions though.

Alternate Spear Designs

These pictures show Okoye with different spears. One has electric charge, one comes from her gauntlet, and the other is a multi-headed spear. These spears are all amazing, any one of them would’ve fit well.

A Different Kind of Mask

Yes, a helmet or mask in a fight helps. They protect you from a lot of harm. This mask paying tribute to African culture is amazing. In the end, they opted to leave the Dora Milaje without a mask.

Okoye’s Different Hairstyles

Okoye only has hair in one scene of Black Panther. She absolutely hates it. These hairstyles are different, and fit her look. Overall, the look they went with worked perfectly.

Alternate Tattoo Designs

Okoye has some awesome tattoos in the film. These designs all would’ve worked as well. There were multiple looks she could’ve ended up with.

Alternate Designs for Okoye and Nakia

If you look closely you can see the different patterns. There were many designs put into the concept art. The ones chosen were amazing, but there were many options like the ones above.
