The man who directed the first and third installment in the MCU and the critically acclaimed live-action Jungle Book film is now set to serve as executive producer and writer to a new Star Wars live-action TV series. StarWars.com announced today that Jon Favreau will be joining the Star Wars, with Kathleen Kennedy commenting on the announcement:
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform, Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
Kennedy wasn’t the only one to announce her excitement, as Favreau also mentions how excited he is to work in a galaxy far, far away.
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
Favreau and Disney seem to have a fantastic relationship considering their past partnerships. He has worked with them in the previously mentioned productions, as well as the upcoming highly anticipated live-action Lion King film, which is set to release in 2019. In terms of the Star Wars series Favreau will be working on, it is currently untitled and has no release date yet.
