With the Xbox One having backward compatibility, Play Station gamers have often asked for the same feature but with no answer. Now with rumors of the PS5, it looks like the future console might include the perk in a type of way.
In a patent made Sony which was updated on February 13th of this year, Sony is looking at testing a device that has written in the patent “Backward compatibility testing of software in a mode that disrupts timing.” While it was filed in 2015 it was filed after the PS4 was released and was updated this year. While this might not mean anything it looks like Sony is testing a backward compatible feature.
SIEE’s Jim Ryan has stated in the past that even though the feature has been the highly requested, he believes it wouldn’t be used as much and that the company isn’t looking at adding the feature. He also commented that their stance won’t change in the future so fans shouldn’t be looking at for a change.
At the moment there are rumors that the PS5 will be announced this year at E3 with either a 2019 or a 2020 release date. Whether or not we see anything we will have to wait and see at E3 this year.
