Hot off from the sequel being confirmed yesterday by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, Black Panther has now officially joined the billion-dollar club.
In just 26 days, the record-breaking superhero film has now reached the coveted 1 billion mark in the worldwide box-office. Black Panther joins 6 other comic-book movies that have also grossed over the 1 billion; The Dark Knight, Captain America: Civil War, The Dark Knight Rises, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers. It also seems like it will end up outgrossing at least half that list when final earnings are in.
The global phenomenon marks an important development in representation in film, especially in superhero movies. With over $521 million domestically and over $500 mil internationally, this film will surely be making it in a lot of top ten box office lists. It only recently opened in China, so there’s still plenty of money to be made.
Black Panther is in theaters everywhere.
