Kevin Feige Confirms Marvel Has No Plans For The X-MEN Until Disney/Fox Deal Is Finalized

With Disney’s recent purchase of the film and television divisions of 21st Century Fox, Disney has managed to acquire the rights to several of Fox’s franchises. Most notably, the film rights to X-Men have shifted between studios, meaning that the producers at Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Disney, can now incorporate these characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige has stated he has no plans to bring the X-Men characters into the MCU at the moment.

Feige states that his priorities are more focused on the current films in production such as Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and the Wasp as well as future projects such as the fourth Avengers film and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Furthermore, with Avengers: Infinity War‘s release approaching, he is also occupied with the film’s marketing. In addition, incorporating the X-Men into the MCU is not crucial at this moment according to Feige since the Disney/Fox deal has not finalized. The full quote can be seen below:

It’s all about getting Infinity War finished and out, starting Captain MarvelAnt-Man and the WaspUntitled Avengers, the next Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. These are the ones that are keeping us busy. When and how that deal with Fox finishes and comes together and we’re told, “Hey, now you can start working on it. Now you can start thinking about it,” is when we’ll actually start thinking about it. I will say just the notion of having what, frankly, most other companies with [intellectual property] have all along, which is access to all of their characters, that would be fun.

Once the Disney/Fox deal is made, only then will Feige have plans for handling the X-Men. For the time being, the idea of X-Men working alongside the Avengers will remain as a potential for future installments in the expanding franchise.
