One of the busiest people in Hollywood, Greg Berlanti, who oversees TV properties like Arrow, Black Lightning, Riverdale, Supergirl, and The Flash on the CW network, recently talked to TheWrap and gave an update on the Booster Gold movie and what road bumps that Warner Bros. still need to clear before proceeding forward with production.
“It’s still in development with DC. They’re trying to figure out both the distance that we still have to travel and how we want to execute it. [We are trying to figure it out] how it’s going to fit into their greater landscape. That’s really on Warner Bros., they’re still kind of determining their order of business on that end. We have a draft with a writer I liked very much.”
In the year 2442, Michael Jon Carter aspires to become a celebrity so heavily that he decides to travel back in time to become a superhero named Booster Gold. Once he arrives from the future, he sets up rescues so he can earn money from sponsors and gain fame using the technology that he brings with him from 2442.
Berlanti said the Booster Gold movie will not take place in the same film universe as the current DC Films Universe. Without the big name superheroes in the same universe, it will be interesting to see how Booster Gold will get that attention that he craves, which is such an important part of his character.
Berlanti, who recently directed the movie, Love Simon, which will be out in theaters on March 16th, is still interested in directing Booster Gold:
“If the studio is excited, it’s obviously [depends on] their determination. We finished all the work we need to do on the draft, I would love to do something in that space. I’m still a little clueless on how movies come together. I show up to work every day and make the work as good as I can but then [if] they call me and say, ‘We’re making it!’”
