There will be a new power player in Harlem for the new season of Luke Cage. Marvel and Netflix have cast Annabella Sciorra as the new villain for season 2. Sciorra will play Rosalie Carbone, “a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem.”
Rosalie Carbone is the leader of the Carbone family. Her first appearance was in Punisher War Zone #2 (1992). She has employed the likes of Bullseye and many other criminals known in the Marvel Universe. She is tied to Luke Cage, Punisher, and Daredevil. She is from Long Island, New York. Her list of lovers includes Frank Castle, Enrico, and Bruno. She has the potential to star in more than one of the Marvel Netflix shows, we will see if it happens though.
Sciorra starred in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, had a very important role in a season of Soprano’s, and has a recurring role in the Netflix original series G.L.O.W.. Sciorra is used to playing a strong female role. The actress has had a 20+ year career as an actress. She is also one of the many women who has spoken out against Harvey Weinstein.
Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker discussed the casting:
“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Anabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone. You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”
Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb also provided a statement:
“We couldn’t be happier to be working with such an incredible talent,” added Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. “This character is complex and layered and Annabella is the perfect actress to portray her.”
The star of Luke Cage, Mike Colter stated this talking about Season 2:
“A little darker than season 1 … it’s so relevant that it feels like this is what would happen if superheroes were walking around the street. This is what it would be like… a lot more fighting. I’m going to be squared off against a lot of people.”
