According to Deadline, A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay is set to direct a live-action adaptation of The New Gods for Warner Brothers. The studio is also in the process of locking down a screenwriter, who will work closely with DuVernay, to pen the script.
DuVernay recently became the first women of color to direct a film that had a budget of over $100 million with A Wrinkle in Time. Her other works include Selma and the 13th. Recently, DuVernay had played coy with all the talk of her possibly directing a superhero or Star Wars film. That all apparently was a front because this deal has likely been in the works for some time.
The New Gods are one of the first Jack Kirby creations following the famed comic creator’s exit from Marvel. They include characters like Big Barda, Mister Miracle, and Orion, who is the son of Darkseid. They have an extensive comic history which has been explored by many writers and artists over the years.
