One of the big unanswered questions coming out of the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War is where exactly is Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye? The character has been prominently missing from trailers and most of the marketing, so what exactly is happening? The set visit embargo for Avengers: Infinity War just lifted recently, and the Russo Brothers (Joe & Anthony) offered some insight on the Hawkeye situation when journalists were on set:
Joe Russo: “Coming out of Civil War, he’s in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. And coming into this movie you know … the characters on Cap’s side coming out of the Civil War, some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye’s on his own journey in this movie.”
Anthony also added that Hawkeye’s reaction to Civil War is “unique:”
Anthony Russo: “Yeah. He has a unique reaction to the civil war situation that puts him in a special spot in this film.”
It seems that Hawkeye’s reaction to the civil war scenario is vastly different from the other heroes we saw involved. In the grand scheme of things, it makes sense as to why our favorite non-green wearing archer reacted very differently than the others. Barton has a family which he cares greatly about, something that was seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The other character that was involved in Civil War that comes close to having a similar scenario is Ant-Man with his daughter. This must not be the only reason why, as Barton himself as expressed that he was a little out of his league in Avengers: Age of Ultron. If one thing’s for sure, the Avengers will definitely need more than a couple of arrows if they plan on stopping Thanos…
