With Ready Player One soon to be released, director Steven Spielberg is now set to make Indiana Jones 5 his next project. So far, it has been confirmed that Harrison Ford would return to play the iconic character and that the release date was pushed back to Summer 2020 due to directing The Post while Ready Player One was in post-production. However, we now have a set shooting date and location for the movie. It was recently revealed during his acceptance speech at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards that the film will begin shooting in the UK in April 2019.
Considering that Spielberg filmed sections of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ready Player One in the UK, it makes sense that he has made plans to return there to shoot the next Indiana Jones movie. In addition, he notes during his speech that he enjoys working with local cast and crew members due to their level of talent. The full quote can be seen below:
“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”
Plot details are unknown as of yet, though it is known that David Koepp will serve as the film’s screenwriter, thus making this his second script for an Indiana Jones movie following Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Also, this will be the first in the series to not have a story written by series producer George Lucas.
