As fans of the comics know, the cybernetic assassin Nebula is an essential part of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline. But for star Karen Gillan, she had no idea how important Nebula would be to the MCU when she signed on to the role. Gillan has recently commented on how surprised she was by Nebula’s part and may have revealed what the future holds for the character.
Recently, Screen Rant caught up to Gillan during promotion for the home release of her film Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. During the meetup, naturally, talk shifted to Marvel and Gillan’s role as Nebula. When asked if the star expected to be such a huge part of the MCU when she signed onto Guardians of the Galaxy, she revealed that it came as a big surprise,
“I had no idea that this was where the character was going. I genuinely signed onto the role thinking it was eight days of filming and then I was going to die in the first Guardians. Three movies later and there’s three more to come out it’s, like, crazy. It’s funny because I read the Infinity Gauntlet, which is what the new Avengers films are based on, as research for my character because it’s her sort of biggest moment within the Marvel comic book world, and then to find out they’re making a double-bill feature based on that, I was just so excited actually because Nebula gets some really cool stuff.”
Now, this is where it gets quite interesting as the star may have just revealed some new information about Avengers: Infinity War and the future of the MCU. Many fans had theorized that Nebula may be one of the characters to die during Infinity War or Avengers 4 but this theory has now been shut down as Nebula will apparently appear in a few more films. As Gillan said, “Three movies later and there’s three more to come out,” it seems the character isn’t going anywhere. We should take the first three films to be Guardians 1 and 2 along with Infinity War. Which we can assume one of the three films to come out must include Avengers 4. Perhaps this means Nebula is now confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But what the third film could be is now up for debate.
It will be very interesting to see where we will see Nebula pop up next so make sure to stay tuned to SuperBroMovies for updates.
