Picking up from the recent events of Black Panther, actress Danai Gurira talks where her character is at during the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
The ending of Black Panther signaled big change for Wakanda and how it will be seen in the MCU going forward, but we won’t have to wait for the sequel to see how that’s impacted the people in the nation itself. We already know there’s a large, high-stakes battle that takes place in Wakanda, as many characters who didn’t visit at the end of Captain America: Civl War will be introduced to it. Several supporting characters from the solo film will also be joining the title character with a role in the ensemble movie, including Shuri, Queen Ramonda, M’Baku, and Okoye.
But that’s not the only plot thread to be picked up, as the Winter Soldier, complete with a new code name, will be awake and fighting. Actress Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye, spoke in an interview on how her character will be taking the state of her nation.
“She hasn’t been excited about outsiders. You’ll see more [of] that. You’ll see that in a very clear way in the movie. Outsiders, they threaten what they’ve built up, but that’s the big question: Do we isolate, or do we open up? It’s an interesting thing that’s highly relevant to what we’re dealing with in various parts of the Western world, but it’s from an African perspective, so it’s really interesting. He’s one guy, so he’s manageable. She’s thought it through. She knows how to disarm that arm.”
This is highly consistent with her portrayal in Black Panther, where the Dora Milaje were fiercely devoted to their king and country. It’s exciting to see the arcs of characters continue in Infinity War so soon after they began in Black Panther. While it may be a few years before we get the official Black Panther sequel, it’s almost as if we only had to wait a couple of months.
