Former ‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’ Actress DeWanda Wise Interested in Playing STORM

DeWanda Wise joined the Captain Marvel cast and the MCU in January. Unfortunately, it was recently announced that she would have to leave the project. She did not want to leave, but due to the renewal of the Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It by Spike Lee, she had to. A scheduling conflict spoiled her appearance in the MCU.

Alas, she still hopes to join the MCU at some point. Most notably, she wants to play Storm of the X-Men franchise. In a post on Instagram that has been deleted she wrote:

“Per your DMs, I too would love to play Storm,” she wrote. “Even though that’s totally not a thing (yet). So feel free to spam Marvel accounts.”

So yes, this is a very real thing. She is still interested in playing Storm. Although, the chances of it happening sooner than later are currently very slim. As Marvel/Disney do not own any X-Men characters as of right now.

Alexandria Shipp is currently Storm in the X-Men franchise. Disney has purchased Fox and a merger is in the process though. This deal may take some time, so we will see if Storm gets recast as the stages of the deal continue. There have been plenty of Twitter threads and post about a darker toned Storm being cast to replace Shipp. As a matter of fact, Wise was responding to DMs (Direct Messages) from fans when she posted on her Instagram.

Kevin Feige doesn’t particularly have any plans for the X-Men in the MCU yet. Feige, like everyone else, is waiting for the federal regulators to approve the Disney/Fox merger. The approval could take up to about 12 months, so don’t hold your breath. The exciting news is that Wise is still seeking a role somewhere in a superhero film. We will see if she lands one, particularly as Storm.

For now, you can stream Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It on Netflix starring DeWanda Wise!
