Zak Penn, Writer for ‘THE AVENGERS,’ is Working on A New Marvel Project

Zak Penn, a writer for The Avengers, is currently working on another Marvel project.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant to promote his most recent work, Ready Player One (directed by Steven Spielberg), Penn revealed that he is currently working on a new Marvel movie, but did not specify if it is with Marvel Studios’ MCU or the Marvel/Fox universe. He did mention Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind the MCU, in his interview.

His quote is shown below:

I think I’m probably gonna come back. I think I’m gonna do one more Marvel, one more project in the Marvel Universe. I’m about to start doing, but…I have to check and see if I’m allowed to say what it is. For the most part I had a long run on comic book movies and I was kind of eager to, you know, just cause it can be really crushing, you know, at times…

Penn is known for developing the original story for The Avengers while Joss Whedon is credited for the screenplay. Besides Ready Player One, he also wrote the screenplay for The Incredible Hulk and worked on the stories for X-Men 2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. Penn even revealed he has helped WB out with the sequel to Suicide Squad “as a favor”.

Besides the unnamed Marvel movie Penn said he is planning on working on, he said he is set to write another comicbook movie, but did not go any further than that.

Penn also brought up his superhero fatigue that he has recently lost due to the strength of the latest superhero films:

…I was getting sick of comic book movies, honestly, I was getting really sick of them, until this past year. I mean I thought Logan is the best X-Men movie that’s been made and I thought Deadpool was one of the better superhero adaptations ever and so I applaud them for spreading their wings.

Penn is also working on a Matrix “passion project.”
