As more footage from Avengers: Infinity War is being released, audiences have been surprised by several key moments in the film such as Thor meeting up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Furthermore, the most recent trailer revealed Vision taking on a human form resembling his actor, Paul Bettany. This is a first for the character since his appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War only featured him resembling his comics incarnation. In light of this, Bettany has now stated that Vision’s ability to resemble a human is because of nano-technology.
In an interview with Cinemablend, Bettany detailed certain aspects of his character, such as how possessing the Mind Stone will make him a target of Thanos and the Black Order. This was also where he described why Vision could resemble him, albeit with the Mind Stone still glowing in his forehead. In addition, he compares Vision changing his appearance to dressing up for Mardi Gras or Halloween. Bettany’s explanation can be seen below:
Well, you either travel to different Mardi Gras around the world. Or Halloween, you’re golden — Halloween, it’s his night out. Or you discover the ability to change your appearance with nano-technology.
According to Nano.gov, nano-technology is the ability to “manipulate and control individual atoms and molecules”. Therefore, Vision can change any part of his body to adapt to any situation, including the alteration of his physical form. Vision manipulating his appearance due to nano-technology will provide him a greater ability to blend in with others around him, and it is known that this will be utilized in undercover mission scenes with Captain America.
