20th Century Fox has delayed the release of two upcoming X-Men films. X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants have both been pushed back and have received new 2019 release dates. Fox recently updated their entire slate to move around their X-Men projects. Deadpool 2 was moved up while Gambit and the aforementioned New Mutants was delayed.
New Mutants was originally set to release next month, with a trailer already being released. That was then pushed to next February but now we won’t see New Mutants release until August 19, 2019. The film has reportedly been undergoing massive reshoots to change the tone of the film. It’s also set to add a mystery character.
As for Dark Phoenix, the film has been pushed from November 2, 2018 to February 14, 2019. That date is significant because it was at one point the release date for Gambit. The upcoming main X-Men film has tested poorly in test screenings which may have led Fox to delay it.
