Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has really improved its quality since the show began back in 2013, which has lead to the formation of a very passionate fan base. Earlier in the year, Executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell mentioned that they were writing the season5 finale of the show as a series finale, saying that: “…as far as we know, this could be it.” Fans have since been wondering what the future of the show will be, especially considering what events loom for the MCU’s near future. A new rumor has arisen regarding the future of the show and if it’s true, fans of the show are rejoicing everywhere.
MovieTVTechGeeks claims that the show has been renewed for a sixth season, saying that 3 sources over at ABC and Disney have confirmed this rumor. As to the reasoning to the renewal:
“Disney doesn’t want to lose another Avengers connection on network television,” out ABC source said. “With the upcoming season 5 finale coming in May, expect a season 6 announcement which should give diehard fans some good news.”
The influence of Avengers: Infinity War is also a big factor in the alleged renewal, as the film is expected to provide a boost to the show. If the show is indeed set to return for a sixth season, it is also mentioned that it could be moving back to its Tuesday time slot. If the show is officially renewed, it will be interesting to see how it fits into the greater MCU after the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Friday nights at 9PM ET on ABC.
