Hayley Atwell, the British actress who portrayed the beloved Peggy Carter sat down with Parade in an exclusive interview recently and discussed many things; including a possible return to the MCU. Atwell is currently starring in a stage play titled Dry Powder in London. She also is starring in the Starz original show Howard’s End which premiered April 8th. In the interview, she goes into detail on a few things and it’s very informative for fans.
The last time we saw Agent Carter in the MCU she was lying on her deathbed conversing with Steve Rogers. He technically still owes her a dance. We’ve seen a few characters come, go, and then come back in the MCU so her return wouldn’t be too outrageous. Most likely in a flashback, or something of that nature. It wouldn’t be too farfetched if she appears in Captain Marvel next year. A few characters have been announced to be returning, maybe it’s possible we can get a late showing of Peggy Carter.
Here is what Atwell had to say about a possible return to the MCU:
Because it’s a genre-specific superhero piece, I’m sure anything could happen. It’s such a huge world. I do think there’s something in the completion of the fact that they’re doing their back-to-back Avengers at the moment, which will complete an era, so I can’t see how that would be. But that’s what’s remarkable about Marvel is they keep going. Each film tends to further what they’re doing, so I wouldn’t rule it out.
It doesn’t seem like she has much confidence in Peggy Carter returning to the MCU. At the same time, she is opened to Agent Carter’s return. As she said, Marvel is ending an era with Infinity War and Avengers 4. The only way I could see her returning is if she appears in Captain Marvel, or an MCU film set anywhere between Captian America: Winter Soldier and Captain America: The First Avenger. Maybe a flashback in Avengers 4, but it would have to be something that wouldn’t throw off the fans. I’m all for Peggy Carter returning, I just want it to fit the film.
