A Quiet Place had an amazing open weekend, the film opened up with $50 million domestically to make for the second best opening weekend this year behind Black Panther. Usually, when a film has this kind of success, a sequel is also immediately announced. This weekend at a press conference the writers of A Quiet Place, Bryan Woods, and Scott Beck, were asked about a sequel.
Woods was first up and described what made the project so enticing:
“It’s such a fun world. There are so many things you could do.”
I haven’t seen the film yet and I plan to see it this weekend, but from what I understand the film pretty much ends in a way that a sequel is very possible. There are also many questions to be answered. Where are the monsters from, how many people are left alive, where are they located? There’s an entire universe inside the film. The odd thing is, the film was almost a film in the Cloverfield universe. It would be amazing to see another legitimate horror/thriller universe the likes of Cloverfield, The Purge, and The Conjuring.
Beck added this to the conversation:
“Definitely…There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer,” Beck added. “So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?”
The two writers are definitely open to creating sequels and possibly a universe for the film. They want this series to be a character driven one and I highly doubt Paramount would skip on the chance to have two of the biggest horror/thriller franchises out right now under its umbrella. I’m sure John Krasinski would be open to returning for the next film and for the franchise. Emily Blunt and the children Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe would most likely return as well. There is a lot you can do with this franchise and I’m also sure there is a multitude of talent would be willing to join something so original and pure as this. A Quiet Place has horror on top in the box office and could possibly be apart of what will be an amazing year for horror.
