Bucky Barnes has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011 when Sebastian Stan first portrayed the character in Captain America: The First Avenger It was assumed that the met his demise during the events of that film but he was brought back as the brainwashed agent of HYDRA during 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He was then a fugitive from the law during 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and was seen fully transformed, happy, and healthy (although arm-less) during the end-credits scene 2017’s Black Panther. His story will pick up in Avengers: Infinity War as he will be on the front lines in the battle against Thanos.
Needless to say, Bucky’s story-arc has been one wild ride.
Sebastian Stan has been one of those names rumored to be leading the next generation of MCU films along with Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, and Brie Larson. But as is the nature of Hollywood, especially the MCU, nothing is confirmed until it is confirmed by the source themselves.
That is not stopping Stan from hoping and wishing for a long stable future in the films.
During the red carpet event for the sneak peak screening of the highly anticipated third Avengers film in London, Stan spoke with Hey U Guys and mentions his desire to see the unique and tragic story of Bucky continue.
“I know we had conversations about what potentially might happen, where he would go, and where he wouldn’t go. But, it’s just so hard to predict, you know? Because it’s just, over time, it depends on the fans. It depends on all kinds of things. But it’s been a blessing to see it come this far. And like I said, we knew we could potentially do a Winter Soldier movie, or any of those things. And so far it’s been great, so knock on wood, you know? It keeps going.”
It’s not totally surprising that an actor would like to continue working for the highest grossing film franchise of all time but it does lead to fans all over the world speculating that Bucky will pick up the classic Captain America shield and take the mantle as a symbol of hope and respect going into a post-Infinity War future.
What do you think? Do you want more or less of Bucky in the future? What are some of your ideas about what could be happening in the future? Let us know @superbromovies and in the comments below.
