Even though there are still a few weeks left until Avengers: Infinity War is released and changed the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever, fans are already looking past the destruction of The Mad Titan Thanos and asking “what’s next?”
And they are not the only ones.
During the ongoing worldwide press tour for the upcoming third Avengers film, Joe and Anthony Russo, the men tasked with directing the groundbreaking cinematic event, spoke with the French publication Linternaute and expressed their interest in a potential film based on the comic book event originally running from May 1984 to April 1985.
“If Disney’s takeover of Fox ends, it’s a lot more characters to work with at once, it might be worth doing something like Secret Wars.”
A few months back, Disney and Fox announced that Disney would be purchasing Fox’s 20th Century Fox film studios, which would allow a bevy of Marvel characters to join the MCU. The merger has yet to be completed but that is not stopping fans and filmmakers from imagining the possibilities to come.
While Joe and Anthony Russo do not implicitly say they would like to direct it, it is worth nothing that two of the most influential men associated with Marvel Studios has such a popular and HUGE story from the comics on their radar.
