As Star Wars: Episode IX is under development, rumors have been going around pertaining to story elements and characters that could be in the movie. One of the newest rumors reveals that Yoda will appear in it. This will be his most recent appearance in the new trilogy following his brief supporting role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While some have said that The Last Jedi will be Yoda’s final appearance in the Skywalker saga, this new rumor serves as a potential for this next entry to be the final one.
According to New York Daily News, a source familiar with the production says that Yoda will likely appear alongside Rey as she further develops her Jedi skills. In addition, this source notes that he will be present as a Force ghost, much like he did in The Last Jedi, and that his scenes will be shot sometime in 2018. The full quote can be seen below:
“The success of the scenes featuring Yoda in The Last Jedi were huge. Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi. The scenes are due to be put together later this year.”
As several cast members have yet to read the script, the likelihood of the iconic Jedi master coming back for this new film is unclear. With The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm did not announce Yoda’s appearance until that movie’s release. Therefore, Yoda showing up in the next movie will be a surprise as it was before. If this rumor turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how Yoda will interact with Rey since they have not met each other in real life.
