With Avengers: Infinity War just around the corner, fans are hoping to get some news about the currently untitled Avengers 4. While all the hype is surrounding Infinity War, it’s easy to forget that a year from now we will be seeing the release of the Fourth Avengers film, and what will be the conclusion of a 21 film story. Originally titled Infinity War Part 2, the subtitle of the avengers film has subsequently been replaced to the now untitled Avengers 4, with the secrecy surrounding just the name itself.
In jest, The Russo Brothers, directors of both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 replied to a tweet of a fan concerned that the title not being revealed spells doom for our heroes. Upon saying that the lack of a title scared them, the Russos simply replied with “It Should.”
When speaking to Metro.co.uk at an Infinity War fan event, the directors were able to elaborate on their cryptic tweet, continuing to stress the importance and dire situation of facing a villain like Thanos:
‘This is it,’ he explained. ‘Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s like the Genghis Khan of the universe, and to stop him it’s going to cost them a lot. ‘They’re going to have to see if they’re willing to pay that price, and that’s what these movies are really about.’
Joe Russo also elaborated on the tweet as well, providing his two cents on how the film will play out, and why fans should be concerned — and prepare themselves for heartbreak:
‘What we meant by that is to be prepared. What we want is for the audience to be prepared, as there’s a lot of surprises – there’s going to be a lot of humour and a lot of heartbreak.’
With what will soon be 20 films under their belt by the end of this year, it’s no surprise that Marvel Studios will be letting go of some of its iconic characters in these upcoming Avengers films. With so much at stake, it makes a lot of sense from a story structure standpoint to have some characters bite the dust for the greater good in the battle against Thanos. It will be interesting to see how the film will play out when it releases in the coming weeks.
