After resuming development on the Batgirl project, it seems like WB/DC is moving fast to get her and various other characters on the big screen soon. A Birds of Prey film is not only in the works but also may be the next DC film project to go into production, and it has a female director in place.
TheWrap reports that up and coming director Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) will helm the picture with a script from Christina Hodson, the current writer for Batgirl. The film will star Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and is her next appearance in the DCU. The Suicide Squad Sequel was said to be possibly filming sometime this year, but it seems like Birds of Prey will be taking the spot. Variety’s Justin Kroll added to the latest news by revealing it will shoot at the end of the year.
This means if all goes smoothly, we should be getting major casting announcements, and the film could be announced officially at the Warner Bros. panel at SDCC. Getting a relatively new director in the industry is very interesting, and I’m also glad it seems like Cathy will become the third female to helm a DC film in the DCU.
