We all have a wishlist of things we want to see happen in the MCU. We got Spider-Man, but many of them involve characters that aren’t under the Disney/Marvel umbrella. They belong to Universal or 20th Century Fox. This has a ton of Marvel fans upset because some of the greatest battles in Marvel comics involve these heroes. However, with the acquisition of Fox by Disney, things may change, a little bit. Until then, we just have to hope that our wishlist will happen at some point.
We aren’t the only ones with a wishlist. The Avengers: Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo also have a wishlist. In a recent interview with Games Radar, they were asked about what character they would have wanted to add to the film. The answer from Joe Russo was simple:
“It would probably be Wolverine.”
Anthony Russo added:
“Yeah, maybe one day.”
This would have been a dream come true for many many Marvel fans, myself included. We’ve been hoping for that to happen, but a deal could never get done. Hugh Jackman was interested in this happening. He wanted Wolverine to fight Hulk, which would’ve been epic. Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman laid down Wolverines metal claws after 2017’s Logan. If we ever do get Wolverine in the MCU it will definitely be a different actor.
The X-Men and Fantastic Four may be up for a complete reboot in a few years though. The Disney/Fox deal is supposed to be done by 2019. Until the deal is finalized, Marvel can’t make any plans involving any characters under the Fox umbrella. Meaning, that any movies that are currently under any kind of development, will happen unless Fox says otherwise.
Kevin Feige commented on the matter:
“The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do.”
Disney CEO Bob Iger also spoke on the Disney/Fox deal:
“The regulatory process has begun in numerous jurisdictions across the world. And I spent the last several weeks meeting with a number of business leaders at Fox, gaining insight that will be invaluable when it comes to integrating our organizations once we have regulatory approval.”
Basically, Feige is only focused on what’s planned for the here and now in the MCU. Until Iger tells him, “Hey we own the movie rights for the X-Men and Fantastic Four.” He’s not worried about integrating those characters into the MCU. Hopefully, we get news soon, but it seems that we won’t know anything until after Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel are released next year.
