There have been plans for a Black Widow movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time, but it seems that those plans have come to fruition. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has now met with several screenwriters and directors, including A United Kingdom director Amma Asante and Mustang director Deniz Gamze Erguven. It turns out that Marvel has currently met up with at least sixty-five potential directors for the film, including the aforementioned Asante and Erguven.
This information was revealed through a recent tweet by Justin Kroll from Variety. In addition to stating the number of people that have met with Marvel for the directing job, he adds that this process is more rigorous than usual for a Marvel movie:
Kroll’s tweet does not detail which directors have met up to helm Black Widow, meaning that Marvel could have reached out to filmmakers of varied experiences. Furthermore, no statement has been released from Marvel regarding this lengthy search. The most we know so far is that the studio is searching for female voices, considering they have already met Asante and Erguven. It will be interesting to see who will end up in the director’s chair for this movie.
What do you think about Marvel’s thorough process of finding a director for Black Widow? Be sure to tweet your thoughts at @superbromovies and stay tuned for more Black Widow news.
