With many of the MCU’s biggest heroes meeting their end soon, fans are looking forward to seeing the newer, smaller characters at the forefront. The one thing fans most want to see is Bucky take the mantle of Captain America. While it hasn’t been confirmed by Marvel just yet, Sebastian Stan has expressed interest in taking his character in that direction, and he just recently revealed what that would look like.
While on the BUILD Series YouTube show, Stan stated that his take on Captain America would be much different than Chris Evans’ (if he were to take that role).
“I mean look, you know it would have to be a very different, you know, quote Captain America. It just wouldn’t be the same.”
Fans who are familiar with the comics will know that Bucky became Captain America after Steve Roger’s death, which resulted in a much darker, more complex iteration of the character.
“It would be interesting… in the comic books it was always interesting because there’s an emotional turmoil, there was a guilt there that was driving for me, a character, because, because it’s Steve’s absence, you know, it sort of felt like the guy had to once again carry on this you know vision that his best friend had for years and what he stood for, and that struggle you know have that kinda coming into conflict with someone who’s still grappling with their own past and what you know is the right thing to do now and if you have a character who’s always searching and forgetting an identity and finally gets an identity only to have to lose it again to an idea, then it makes it for the complex take on it, you know what I mean.”
Sebastian Stan revealed that the live action take would be very similar to that.
“So if they ever were to explore that it would be a very different, definitely way darker take on the situation you know.”
Bucky taking the mantle of Captain America is something that will likely happen in the next few years. Would you be on board with a darker take on that character? Let us know on Twitter @SuperBroMovies. –Caleb Sadd
