As far as horror films go, John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place surprised everyone. With a unique storyline and crazy suspense, Krasinski has received endless admiration for his directorial debut as well as some critical acclaim. The response was so good that Paramount’s CEO announced at CinemaCon that there was already a sequel in the works.
Deadline recently got to talk to the director himself where he revealed how shocked he was that the movie was so loved. When asked about the response the movie has been receiving, Krasinski told Deadline:
It’s only a short while since the movie came out, but already people are saying, ‘We want to live in this world more,’ which is really interesting. I’m surprised people aren’t like, ‘Nah, we know what this is, and we just want to leave it as it is.’
He also expanded on how he thought that the movie’s premise was more of a stand-alone storyline. While making the film he only had intentions of it being a “one-off”. Now the questions is, will he come back to helm the sequel? There hasn’t been any word yet, but he did offer some insight as to where he believes the story could go. He said:
Where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?
In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time.
We were so focused on the Abbott family that we may have lost sight of the fact that so many other people were experiencing this situation as well. It seems that if John were to come back for the sequel, we’d get to see a new family’s way of dealing with this event as well as how the Abbott’s are carrying on possibly.
Everyone at Paramount is so proud of how well A Quiet Place is doing and it would be amazing to see Krasinski come back for the sequel. His take on horror was fresh, and terrifying. What would you like to see in a sequel for A Quiet Place? Let us know over at SuperBroMovies! – JB Baker
