Gwyneth Paltrow seems to have dropped a spoiler for Avengers 4. This article contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War.
In Avengers: Infinity War, Tony Stark told Pepper on their run that he had a dream they had a baby and she shot him down, saying it was just a dream and was not going to come true like he had hinted. Well, Paltrow’s recent statement from the official Avengers: Infinity War magazine may prove otherwise:
Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.
The presence of a child could fit for when Avengers 4 takes place. Some fans are speculating the film will pick up immediately where Infinity War left off, some set photos seem to show otherwise (and seem to hint at time travel), particularly those showing Stark, like these:
Tony Stark appears older and more closely associated with SHIELD, potentially taking the role of Director after both Maria Hill and Nick Fury turned to dust by Thanos’ finger snap. After Infinity War, it is possible there is a solid amount of time between it and Avengers 4, allowing for the Avengers to come up with a new plan to stop Thanos and for Tony Stark to have a child.
This spoiler could lead to some major changes in the dynamics of the fourth film. For one, Tony could be less willing to go into battle or Pepper may be even more against his doing so. In Infinity War, she begged Tony to return to Earth from the “space doughnut” that Ebony Maw had imprisoned Doctor Strange on. In the fourth Avengers film, she could be even more emphatic about his need to stay out of the fight.
The spoiler could also be to help set up a later generation of Avengers with Tony Stark’s child in the mix. It is arguable that Stark’s death could now be more likely in Avengers 4 because his death could help set up his child taking his spot, using the death of their father to fuel their drive towards becoming a superhero.
