We know the introduction of the villainous Skrulls to the MCU will be in Marvel’s Captain Marvel, but it seems like their presence will be felt once more in Avengers 4. A new rumor shines a light on their potential role in the Infinity War sequel, and how it connects all the way back to the events in Captain Marvel.
MINOR SPOILERS FOR INFINITY WAR & AVENGERS 4 AHEAD
According to the page MCU Cosmic, Skrulls will indeed be a part of the current Avengers storyline and seemingly pave way for more stories down the road. The rumor states that while the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War has Nick Fury and Maria Hill tracking the signals from Wakanda, Fury believes that the Skrulls have finally come to Earth. He’s going to deal with them alongside Carol Danvers in the 90s in Captain Marvel, and thus why he immediately contacts her instead of anybody else.
The rumor also states that this links to Avengers 4 when Hawkeye, who’s now taken on the persona of Ronin, is tracking down the Yakuza in Japan. They turn out to be Skrulls, and this is backed up by the casting notices for them that required being comfortable with prosthetics. The ending of Avengers: Infinity War leaves earth ripe for the taking, so their invasion at this point in time makes a lot of sense.
Beyond that, not much else is known about their involvement in the story. Which is a good thing, we don’t want to know every little thing about one of the most anticipated movies of all time.
