The sequel to the 80’s sendup Kung Fury has added another big name to the film. Eiza González, who made a name for herself in Edgar Wright’s car chase musical Baby Driver, is joining the likes of Michael Fassbender, Arnold Schwarzenegger and David Hasselfhoff in the full-length sequel. David Sandberg is returning to star in the title role as well as direct, produce and write the further adventure of karate-cop, Kung Fury.
Eiza González had previously made a name for herself in Mexico as the star of the popular telenovela Lola before making the leap to American cinemas last summer. González will be playing Rey Porter, a confident reporter who asserts herself into the action. González will next be seen in The Women of Marwen, Alita: Battle Angel, Highway and Cut Throat City.
The original Kung Fury was funded primarily through Kickstarter where it broke multiple records for the crowdfunding company. If you haven’t seen the original and have 32 minutes, I highly recommend you watch it. It’s one of those things that gets more ridiculous every minute and you wonder how it will top the previous scene.
The new movie begins filming this summer.
