After only being in theaters for a little over 3 weeks, Avengers: Infinity War has now become the highest grossing comic book film of all time. It had to beat out the first Avengers film, and it easily did thanks to opening in China this weekend.
After this box office weekend, Infinity War has now amassed $1.6 billion globally, which includes $546.8 million domestically and $1.059 billion overseas. This easily beats the CBM record set by The Avengers with $1.519 billion. The newest Avengers film is also now the fifth highest grossing film of all time, just behind Jurassic World ($1,671 billion). What helped the film reach this new achievement is the Chinese audience, it opened to a near-record $200 million weekend in China.
That’s absolutely insane and it seems like Infinity War still has more time to get closer to $2 billion even with big releases like Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s already set to pass Jurrasic World with ease, so at the very least Marvel has secured the fourth spot. With astounding reactions from fans and critics around the world, it’s no wonder that they’ve made it this far in record time.
