When Deadpool first came out, it was either going to be a hit or miss for Fox. Luckily, Ryan Reynolds gave us a loveable version of the merc with a mouth in Deadpool. The success of that film led to a sequel, Deadpool 2, and with that already looking good, Fox continued with their plans for an X-Force film which would be based on the comics.
Deadpool 2 introduces Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beets as Domino. Essentially this movie sets up what could happen in the X-Force film with Reynolds set to return as Deadpool in that also. Other than that, there has not been much update on the film, until Ryan Reynolds spoke with Collider about being very excited to work with Drew Goddard, who is set to write and direct X-Force:
“I just wanna work with Drew. I mean I love him and he has such an interesting take on where he wants to take that world. I see it being a real ensemble on a lot of levels just because I think it’s intersting for Deadpool to kinda function in the way he does in his own universe. You always get to sort of find some ways to position him as the underdog or take everything away from him, but for him to function in an ensemble [X-Force] is a lot of fun. I think there’s a real opportunity to not burden the narrative by shattering Wade’s life, so then at the beginning our movie you get to have him just be part of the team, which is obviously a very challenging prospect for someone like Wade Wilson. So, I’m really excited about that. I’m excited about a couple new characters that we’re talking about. And I’m really especially excited to work with Drew. He’s just amazing.”
It’s always great to see when actors openly talk about being excited to work with certain people for their projects. It looks like Ryan Reynolds is ready to work with Drew Goddard any day now and it’ll be great to see the kind of chemistry they can give while working on X-Force together. Drew Goddard is currently busy with El Royale, so there hasn’t been any confirmation for when production can start for X-Force and Ryan Reynolds has even said there is not a finished script at the moment:
“There’s a storyline that everyone’s happy with but there isn’t a script yet. That’s yet to come.”
With all this new information, it looks like X-Force is still years away before it’ll be released in theaters. Fans have also been speculating about whether or not X-Force would also be R-rated as Deadpool was R-rated and it’s sequel is too. Ryan Reynolds has said that since there is no finished script, there is obviously no offical rating just yet:
“It’s all story first. I don’t think anybody’s thinking about the rating. I mean, my sort of wild guess would be that it would be an R-rated movie, but again, right now we’re just assembling the troops to figure out what story we would tell. And it’s a ways away from shooting still, and I don’t even have an idea as to the exact date. But yea, we’ll see, Story first though.”
And so, even as the film is years away, it is exciting for fans to see that Ryan Reynolds is excited about the film and who he’d be working with. After Drew Goddard is done with El Royale, there will defintely be more update towards where they intend to go with the film. For now, fans eveywhere can enjoy the highly anticipated Deadpool 2 which will be in theaters very soon!
