Ryan Reynolds Played Two Iconic Marvel Characters In ‘DEADPOOL 2’ (SPOILERS)

The Merc with a Mouth debuted his second solo outing this weekend with Deadpool 2. The film was full of laughs as expected but what was surprising was the number of things held back in the marketing, which included the addition of an iconic Marvel comic character that Ryan Reynolds himself voiced.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

During the film, it was teased that inside of the maximum security wing of the Ice Box there was a monster being housed. It was eventually revealed that the character was Juggernaut. He went on to assist Russell in his attempt to kill the headmaster of the orphanage.

The question that arose following Juggernaut’s inclusion was who voiced and did the mo-cap for the character. Writer Rhett Reese shed some light on the mystery while speaking to CBR:

“Ryan Reynolds ended up voicing Juggernaut, if you didn’t know that. That was Ryan’s voice as the Juggernaut, and he did the facial capture for him. I don’t know how they did the physical mo-cap — I don’t think that was Ryan.”

Reese went on to discuss how the idea of including Juggernaut came to be:

“We committed to it pretty early on, because he’s never been done justice until now. We always wanted to see a CG Juggernaut, so we finally got that. We also really needed to balance the scales in act three, between Deadpool and friends and little Firefist who has cool powers, but we needed to make it a fair fight. What greater force of nature than Juggernaut?”

During the third act, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, with the assistance of her girlfriend Yukio, were able to seemingly kill Juggernaut. That is until it seemed to be revealed at the end of the film that he did not die and emerged from the pool. So expect more Juggernaut in Deadpool’s next appearance.
