How ‘DEADPOOL 2’ Landed That A-List Celebrity For A Cameo

Now that we got the warning out of the way, if you’re still reading this, prepared to be spoiled. David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 was full of fun snarky remarks about other films, some that may have surprised others. What was really cool was seeing people like Terry Crews, Zazie Beetz, Rob Delaney, Lewis Tan, Bill Skarsgård, and the one and only Brad Pitt appear in the X-Force.

Out of the film, besides Juggernaut’s appearance, Brad Pitt’s was one of the most surprising. So how exactly did they get one of the most recognizable faces to appear in this film? CinemaBlend was able to talk to the screenwriters/producers of Deadpool 2, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Wernick talked on the cameo saying:

The cameo for Vanisher was last minute. You never saw Vanisher on screen in the original script, and then getting caught up in the electricity wires and seeing the sparks, and then Ryan had the idea, ‘Oh my God, perfect celebrity cameo. Let’s go after the hardest celebrity cameo we can get.’ And that’s Brad Pitt!

Ryan coming up with this idea comes as no surprise at all. It was indeed a perfect cameo. If you would’ve blinked, you would have missed the look on Brad Pitt’s face as he was frying in the electrical wires. After the answer, the duo were asked how exactly was it pulled off so flawlessly. They went pretty in depth on the answer, even saying how Brad Pitt took the least amount of money he could to do the scene. Instead, he just had one special request from Reynolds. Check out the interaction below:

Rhett Reese: We shot in about a half an hour. It was quite a production. It was like a full crew for a half an hour, and Brad agreed to do it for scale, plus a cup of coffee. And then he was really specific about the coffee – said, ‘I want this exact coffee from Starbucks, and, Ryan, I want you to deliver it to me.’

Paul Wernick: And Ryan did deliver it!

Rhett Reese: We got the coffee, Ryan came in and gave it to him. It was hilarious because he kind of forgotten that he asked for it. It was really funny. And then we shot it in about a half an hour.

Reading how it all went down puts a huge smile on my face. The fact that Brad’s only real requirement was a specific coffee from Starbucks to be delivered to him by Ryan himself is actually hilarious. It was very last minute too, as it was shot just a month and a half before release. They had Brad sneak on the lot, and sneak off as if nothing had happened.

Thankfully this news never leaked! It was crazy to see Brad Pitt cameo as Vanisher for a second, and completely fitting as well. Deadpool 2 was a treat to see on the big screen and it has set the bar even higher for R-rated superhero films. What were your thoughts on the Brad Pitt cameo? I think it was super cool.
