Jeremy Renner has been involved with absolutely none of the marketing for the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe film up to date, Avengers: Infinity War. This marks his first Avengers film that he did not play a role in. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely explain in an interview with Collider why they chose not to bring Hawkeye back for Infinity War.

Hawkeye in CW

While writing the script for Infinity War, Markus had to think back to the beginning days of writing when they had all the characters that were on the table for the film.

“I’m just thinking back to long-ago drafts. I mean, everything has happened in drafts, we’ll roll everybody out and road test them.”

McFeely follows up Markus’ comment with a clear explanation of his own on why the characters that were not involved in Infinity War, but will play important story arcs in 2019.

“We’ve said this before, the idea that some characters have great stories in the second movie. And we also gave ourselves permission to use both movies to tell complete arcs for the characters. And that might mean that somebody like Cap or Natasha you might feel like, ‘Oh, they didn’t have as much to do as say, Thor or Doctor Strange, and that surprises me.’ It’s likely because they have a lot to do in the next one.”

What McFeely explained has got me much more hyped because not only is Hawkeye going to have an arc to play in Avengers 4, I hope he gets a similar amount of screen time that Thor had in Infinity War. I am also intrigued to see Paul Rudd make his first official appearance as Scott Lang in an Avengers film and what he can do to help possibly save the superheroes that bit the dust as well as save the world in Avengers 4.

What do you think of Hawkeye possibly have a big story arc in Avengers 4 coming out in theaters May of 2019? Be sure to let us know what you think by tweeting @SuperBroMovies on Twitter!
