It’s officially one month since the release of Marvel Studios epic Avengers: Infinity War. Fans are still reeling from the tragic ending that left many of Earth’s mightiest heroes dead in the wake of “The Snap”. Well, it was recently revealed that the writers of Infinity War originally has different plans for this moment.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Infinity War co-writer Christopher Markus explained how Thanos was going to snap his fingers in the currently untitled Avengers 4. Rather than leave us with the tragic cliffhanger we currently have we could have had a much different film.
As Markus explained,
“It wasn’t just, well, we’ve got too much story, we’d better chop it in half. But what we realized is, it would feel more like a cliffhanger than we intended.”
“It would be a continuation of exactly what you were watching before. [But it needed to] be as big as it wants to be, and as sprawling… [So we went with a script] that went all the way to a tragic ending. And then one where mysterious things happen that I can’t tell you about.”
Gien that Infinity War and Avengers 4 have been described as separate films, moving “The Snap” to the first film left us with much more impact. Having the events after play out through Avengers 4 would not have had the same gravitas of the current narrative. However, while we now have an idea of what was almost in the film, we currently have no idea of whats in store for next years sequel. The plot of Avengers 4 is currently a complete mystery with no idea whats in store for our heroes. So, for now, it seems that we will just have to wait and see what Marvel has planned for the culmination of the MCU.
