During an interview with BBC Radio 2, Orlando Bloom, best known for his role as Legolas in the Lord of The Rings franchise, has thrown his name in the hat for the role of Captain Britain.
“I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit. Who’s the British one? Captain Britain! There you go. Terrible costume, though, and you’ve also got Captain America so what (are) you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?”
Bloom becomes the second actor outside the MCU to expressed interest in bringing the character, Brian Braddock, to life. Trek star Simon Pegg is also interested and has previously said that he loved reading Captain Britain while growing up.
For those of you not familiar with Braddock as Captain Britain, he made his debut in the Marvel comics back in 1987. Before Braddock took on the superhero mantle, he involved a life-threatening motorcycle accident. During the accident, magician Merlyn and his daughter, Roma, appeared and offered to give Braddock superpowers that allowed him to have the super strength, super speed, stamina, durability and the ability to fly. In the comics, Captain Britain eventually went on to become the leader of his own British superhero team called, Excalibur.
It is unknown if Captain Britain fits into the current Marvel plans for Phase 4. President Kevin Feigesaid earlier this year that the studio has film plans until 2025, so if there is no room in Phase 4, perhaps Captain Britain could come later on. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Captain Britain makes his debut in the MCU.
