Looks like the third Bad Boys film is finally moving forward!
Sony has set a date for the long in-development sequel, currently titled Bad Boys For Life. The film will arrive on January 17, 2020, falling right on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. Taking the reins from Michael Bay are relative newcomers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, known for directing this year’s Gangsta.
There’s a lot of doubt going into those movies. While it can be profitable, January is usually a dumping ground in terms of quality. Then there’s the question of whether or not anyone even wants a Bad Boys sequel in the first place. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s stock has fallen pretty far in Hollywood, and the Bad Boys films are considered cult classics at best.
However, the injection of new blood in Arbi and Fallah inspires a little excitement for this movie. While not as exciting as Joe Carnahan (The Grey) directing as originally planned, we’ve seen what happens when Bay stays on a franchise too long, so we could be in for a decently fun flick.
