Ant-Man and the Wasp recently had a press screening a few days ago, and based on the first reactions, it seems like Marvel Studios has another resounding success. The majority of Marvel Studios films have gained early positive reactions, and given that subsequent general audience reactions also tend to be positive, Ant-Man and the Wasp is likely to be their latest film to continue this trend.
Many of the individuals who attended the screening used the word “fun” to describe their experience with the film. Several of them, including Collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub and Moviefone features editor Drew Taylor, posted on Twitter praising the light-hearted tone and giving credit to director Peyton Reed and producer Kevin Feige for making the movie an immensely enjoyable experience:
Other reactions, including those from Slash Film editor Peter Sciretta and Uproxx senior entertainment writer Mike Ryan, have highlighted Michael Peña’s performance as Luis as a scene-stealer and praised the action sequences. Furthermore, Ryan points out one scene with Peña that may be the film’s comedic high point:
In addition, attention has been given towards the movie’s post-credits scene. Collider editor Haleigh Foutch describes it as “one of Marvel’s best”, while pointing out that the movie suffers from too much exposition. Foutch also points out one joke in the movie that brought her to tears, though she does not specify details such as the characters involved:
Some people have even described it as one of the top entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ComicBook writer Brandon Davis states that the movie is “Marvel’s best sequel since Captain America: The Winter Soldier“, meaning that he even prefers it to newer Marvel sequels like Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2:
It will be a few weeks before audiences will get to see Ant-Man and the Wasp for themselves. However, if these first reactions are a sign of how the movie will be received by the public, odds are that Marvel Studios will have another critical and commercial success on their hands as well as mark a satisfying end to the studio’s output for 2018.
What do you think about the first reactions to Ant-Man and the Wasp, and how excited are you to see the movie? Be sure to tweet your thoughts at @superbromovies and stay tuned for more Ant-Man and the Wasp news.
