With Season 3 of Jessica Jones currently in development, little is currently known about the details, including the season’s primary narrative. In fact, it is not clear as to which crew members will participate in this upcoming season, though it is likely that those who worked on Season 2 will come back for another set of episodes. However, it is now confirmed that one of the directors for Season 3 will be none other than the show’s star, Krysten Ritter, thus making this her directorial debut.
Although the specifics about the episode that Ritter will be directing are currently kept in secret, she recently expressed her excitement about helming an episode of a series in which she has become a major component. In addition, she described her collaborators on the show, including series showrunner Melissa Rosenberg and producer Jeph Loeb, as being a family to her:
“I am beyond thrilled to make my directorial debut on Marvel’s Jessica Jones. The entire crew and cast has become family to me, and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to work with our incredible team in this new way. I am so grateful that Melissa Rosenberg, Jeph Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix entrusted me to take the reins.”
Considering Ritter’s lengthy television experience and her time playing Jessica in this show and The Defenders, the fact she has been brought on to direct an episode for this season seems like a logical step. Since she has not directed prior to this, it will be interesting to see if her on-set experiences can give her the skills necessary to craft an effectively directed television episode.
