A Quiet Place was one of the first box office smashes of 2018, having earned over $328 million worldwide on a $17 million budget, in addition to gaining a strong positive reception among critics and audiences. Given the film’s status as a horror drama and its commercial success, it would seem likely that a follow-up would be greenlit. Not to mention, the film’s distributor, Paramount Pictures, would be likely to rush out a sequel given its treatment of horror franchises like Paranormal Activity. However, not only has the studio not rushed the filmmakers to craft a sequel, but also that co-writer/director/star John Krasinski will be involved with the project in some form.
In an interview with Collider, producer Andrew Form has revealed Krasinski’s involvement with the sequel. Furthermore, he states that no mandate has been issued to the producers to make the film as quickly as possible:
“Oh he’s definitely involved. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.”
It is not evident from Form’s statement how exactly Krasinski will contribute to the next movie. Therefore, there is the possibility he will stay on as a screenwriter but not as a director or actor. But considering he is set to return in some capacity, this means the film will be overseen by one of the individuals directly responsible for the predecessor’s success.
