Director Quentin Tarantino, best known for films like Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained, revealed that he was interested in working on a Star Trek movie and is currently working on his pitch to direct it. Fans wondered if that meant the end of the current cast involving Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg. According to Quinto, he believes that the current cast may get the opportunity to work with Tarantino.
While talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Quinto believes that Tarantino wrote the movie pitch with the Star Trek Beyond cast in mind.
“My assumption is that it is with us. That is how it has been presented. You know, until deals are done and contracts are signed and schedules are cleared, nothing is set in stone so anything can happen. My understanding is Quentin had this idea and they were shaping it and forming it and he is off to do his Manson movie. And it would be after that, that we would go maybe do one with him. Which is pretty exciting, pretty cool.”
It will be interesting to see what Tarantino’s story will be about considering that he is best known for having many explosively gory type of scenes in all of his films. Tarantino also tends to work with a certain group of actors in his films, so I am intrigued to see Tarantino work with the likes of Pine, Quinto, Saldana, Urban, Cho, and Pegg. Perhaps, Tarantino will find new talent for his future films.
In the meantime, the next film for the Star Trek franchise is Star Trek 4, which will be directed by SJ Clarkson. Quinto shed some light on the progress.
“There is stuff going on. I had dinner the other night with S.J. Clarkson. S.J. is amazing, we worked on Heroes together and we really hit it off.
Quinto also confirmed the reports about Chris Hemsworth returning to the franchise. While Quinto is unsure how Hemsworth fits in the story, he will have a much bigger role.
“Well, I don’t know because I haven’t read the script, and I think it is still under construction, but yes, [Chris Hemsworth] is playing, yep, yep, all of it.”
Lastly, Quinto was asked about what kind of story he wants for his own character, Spock, in terms of character development.
“I do think that it is a character that is tricky. There is only a finite range of emotional landscape that can be traversed. So, I don’t know yet where we are going to do and I am excited to see. The bottom line is, I love the character, I love my fellow actors. I am really looking forward to the opportunity of going back and making another one.”
