We know that Hobbs and Shaw will hit theaters on July 26th, 2019. We also know that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch will be directing the film. The film will also star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Today, we learned who will play the villain in the film. Idris Elba has signed on to star in Hobbs and Shaw as the antagonist.
We do not know who his character will be in the film yet. We do know that Johnson and Statham are reprising their roles as special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw. Hobbs’ first appearance was in the fifth installment to The Fast and the Furious franchise and Shaw’s first appearance was in the seventh film. Universal has been planning on giving Hobbs his own spinoff for some time. Placing him with Deckard has seemed to spark tons of interest among fans of the franchise.
Landing Elba was a very good idea. He has played the villain in Star Trek: Beyond and The Jungle Book. He has also starred in plenty of action films. Elba had a busy year in 2017 from The Dark Tower to Thor: Ragnarok. He will definitely add on to the star-studded cast that is Johnson and Statham. He is also currently working on The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Turn Up Charlie for Netflix. He’s a busy man, but this is sure to bring more excitement to this new spinoff of the Fast and the Furious franchise.
