While we still don’t have a set release date or casting, news on DC’s Birds of Prey is running rampant. Now there’s a new rumor that states Barbara Gordon, typically known as Batgirl, will be instead of going by her Oracle persona.
The newest rumor comes from The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, and he revealed on Twitter that DC has come to the decision that Batgirl won’t be in Birds of Prey after all. It doesn’t mean Barbara Gordon isn’t in it, and fans of the comics should know what that means.
According to Gonzalez, it was only recently decided that Batgril isn’t going to be in the film, which is interesting given that she has a solo film on the way. With Birds of Prey set to hit production early next year, the question is whether or not the Batgirl will be set before or after.
Going off this information one can assume that Barbara was Batgirl at some point in the DCEU, and is now Oracle in Birds of Prey after presumably being shot by Joker. Meaning, a prequel showing her kick ass as Batgirl could be the idea they’re going for. It’s too hard to tell this early on but stay tuned as we ma get some major news in the coming weeks as San Diego Comic-Con rolls around.
